Disaccharidase Determination (CPT 82657)
Lactase, sucrase, maltase and palatinase (substitute for isomaltase) activities can be determined from an intestinal biopsy. Upon collection the tissue specimen should be placed in a small, tightly capped tube. A 1.5ml microtube works well. The sample should be frozen as soon as possible after collection. A -20°C freezer is fine. The sample does not have to be snap frozen. The sample should be sent on sufficient dry ice to ensure a frozen delivery with a completed request to the address below.
The duodenal biopsy tissue should at no time be placed in saline, water, or other media. The sample should not at any time be placed or sent on a toothpick, gauze or filter paper.
Turn around time is 24 hours from receipt.
Pricing: $52.00 per enzyme or $208.00 for panel of four enzymes.

Pancreatic Enzyme Determination (CPT 84311)
Trypsin, amylase, lipase and chymotrypsin activities can be determined from 0.5ml of duodenal fluid. The sample can be a single collection or ideally, part of a secretin stimulation test. The pH of the fluid must be at least 6.5 for meaningful enzyme activities. The aspirate should be placed in a small, tightly capped tube and stored frozen. A -20°C freezer is fine. Samples should be sent on sufficient dry ice to ensure a frozen delivery with a completed request to the address below. Batch testing is run on once per week.
Pricing: $87.00 per fluid (includes four enzymes)

Pancreatic Elastase in Stool (Exocrine Pancreatic Function) CPT 83516
Human pancreatic elastase remains undegraded during intestinal transit. Therefore, the concentration in feces reflects exocrine pancreatic function. No more than a teaspoon of formed stool (random collection) is necessary for the elastase assay. Store stool frozen if batching samples. However, stool may be shipped at ambient temperature. Elastase activity is stable for five days at ambient temperature. Ship by Fed Ex with a completed request to the address below. Batch testing is run on Thursdays.
Pricing: $41.00 per sample
